5 reasons why holidays are GOOD for your career

5th July 2016

You might not know it by looking out the window but it is officially summer, which for most employees is synonymous with taking time off.

While many workers can’t wait to escape from the office, there are some who decide to skip the break because they want to make a good impression at work. But if you think forgoing annual leave is benefiting your career, think again. Here are five reasons why taking a holiday from work is GOOD for your career…

1. Improved productivity

Evidence shows that we become less productive without proper breaks. In fact, those who work longer hours aren’t as creative and find it difficult to sustain the same level of intensity.

2. Better health

Not taking time off to relax puts you at risk of becoming stressed, which can lead to a multitude of negative effects on your health.

3. Quality time

Taking time out from work means you get to spend quality time and create lasting memories with loved ones, putting you and them in a happy mood.

4. Work-life balance

If you don’t have a good work-life balance, you might start to feel negative about your job. A break from the office will readdress that balance so you can return to work with renewed energy and focus.

5. No regrets

As the saying goes, in the end we only regret the chances we didn’t take. There is so much to see and do outside the four walls of the office, it’s time to make the most out of your annual leave. After all, that workload will still be there when you get back.
